How to measure a driveway, patio or garden
Measuring the area of your driveway, patio, and garden area is fairly straightforward, but it is essential if you’re looking to install paving in these parts of your property.
We’ll talk you through everything that you need to know in order to gain accurate measurements for these spaces with our step-by-step guide. This will provide you with the tools that you need to perform your own valuation of your area, which will mean that you can then contact us and request a quotation.
What to do before you start taking measurements
You will need:
• A tape measure
• Pen and paper
Check the boundary of your property. Record all of the existing drainage and make a note of any new drainage that you wish to have put in place, as the water will need to run into a drainage point.
Please also make a note of any existing streetlamps and dropped kerbs. Most importantly, report any gates, fences and garage doors that open onto the area where you wish to install resin bound paving.
How to work out square metres
To measure the area of a standard straight driveway, for example, measure the length and width in metres.
It’s now just a question of multiplying the two measurements in order to get the area in a m² format
For triangular areas, it’s a matter of taking half the length and multiplying this by the full length and height.
Alternatively, multiply the length and height and divide the result by two:
If it’s a circular area that you need to measure, it’s another trip back to one’s schooldays and the joys of pi:
