Purrfect Paving for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home
In 1860 Mrs Mary Tealby, concerned by the number of stray dogs in London, set up ‘The Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs’.
Originally based in Holloway the Home relocated to Battersea in 1871 and changed its name to .
Battersea in London is one of three centres – the other two are at Old Windsor, Berkshire and Brands Hatch, Kent. Although Battersea took in its first cat in 1883, they didn’t change their name to until 2002.

Our exhibition Stand at 2015 was next to who were working on a project at Battersea, Old Windsor. They were looking for a quality, low maintenance surface to replace the rubber crumb that was too slippery.
Impressed with the quality and benefits of SureSet they believed it to be the ideal alternative.
We arranged a site visit to assess the needs of the dogs and suitability of SureSet.
In December we installed a permeable pathway in the exercise paddock for adult dogs and a new training area for puppies in 6mm Norwegian Pearl. The paddock is like a small park and includes a tree, artificial grass and a sand pit for the dogs to explore, play and exercise.
The training area looks similar to a toddlers’ playground – perfect for training excitable puppies!
As well as looking amazing, the new resin bound footpath and training area benefits from the many safety and maintenance features that come with SureSet permeable paving:
- Non slip
- No puddles
- No weeds
- No loose stone
- Easy to clean.
Both the dogs, Perfectly Green and Battersea are delighted with the new paving.
