St George’s Place, Canterbury
As part of a multi-million pound investment, Canterbury Christ Church University received funding to invest in the development of their student accommodation at St George’s Centre.
The accommodation is located in the centre of Canterbury, ideal for student access to University buildings.
A 15-month partnership between the Students’ Union and the University began with the aim of transforming the accommodation into a unique and flexible space that met the demands of a diverse student body.
There was an additional requirement to not only enhance the experience of Christ Church’s students but also staff and the wider community.
SureSet was specified for two landscaped courtyards; one was a pathway within communal gardens, and the other an area in the family complex.
The specification was technically challenging - a seamless, permeable resin bound pathway consisting of a full spectrum of colours, all blending into each other.
We created over 36 bespoke colours which were all expertly hand mixed, laid and blended.
SureSet was the resin bound of choice because we are the only company able to produce bespoke colour mixes.
We coloured recycled glass ourselves to ensure an exact match to the colours specified in the architects’ drawings.
Arranged around the two landscaped courtyards, the new accommodation has over 200 single en-suite rooms. The courtyards give students a private and contemporary area to meet and socialise.
The installation of SureSet attracted a lot of excitement and interest. Most people had never seen anything like this before, and were excited to see the finished pathway.
The University were thrilled with the results; the path looked incredible and it was hard to believe that this effect had been created with resin bound paving.
