Downsbrook Middle School
Built more than 100 years ago, Downsbrook Middle School in Worthing recently benefitted from a significant expansion programme, with funding from West Sussex County Council.
The school wanted some vibrant paving for a newly formed inner courtyard which was also to include their windmill logo.
Over two days our Installation Team: Dan, Darren, Robson and Stuart, hand laid the edging and 74m² of 3mm recycled glass in three colours; Lemon Yellow, Yellow Green and Mint Green from our Spectrum® range. They also skilfully incorporated a simplified version of the school’s windmill logo into the paving.
Our Installation Team faced a couple of challenges on this project: Firstly, because it was an inner courtyard with no direct outside access, all of the materials had to go through the school - so before any work could begin, all the school corridors had to be lined with plastic to protect the carpets.
The other challenge was that for April, it was unusually hot – this caused the resin to cure quicker than expected. Our Team overcame this particular challenge by mixing smaller quantities of the resin bound school paving in order to reduce the time from mixing to laying.
Our skilled Installation Team successfully created a vibrant courtyard that will inspire the children in both their learning and their play.
The colour and design of the courtyard perfectly reflects the bright modern decor inside the school. Downsbrook’s windmill logo now stands proudly in the courtyard. Not only does the paving look fantastic, it is easy to maintain, hard wearing and its UV stability means the colours will remain vibrant for many years to come.
