Resin Bound Driveway, Essex

Background

A private client in Brentwood, Essex contacted Greenstone Landscapes Driveway Division directly hoping to get advice on how best to finish the renovation works for the front of her property.

Kerb appeal is an important concept as it enhances the attractiveness of the property to the homeowner and if they ever choose to sell, the visual impact to a potential buyer can be the difference between a sale or not.

Job Brief/Planning

The homeowner had extensive renovation works completed on the exterior of her house and therefore requested her driveway to be updated to a resin bound driveway to complete the transformation.

Greenstone Landscapes were recommended to the customer and she certainly knew exactly what she wanted!

Following discussions with Greenstones Design Team, a single-row border consisting of a particular edging detail alongside 6mm Silver Blue UV stable resin bound paving were the requests, along with removal of the existing front wall.

Greenstone agreed that the combination would provide the perfect colour and appearance to enhance the surroundings and compliment her home.  The blend between different colours and materials adds to the aesthetic and the grey tones of the paving compliment the dark grey windows and front door perfectly.

Process/Execution

Existing drainage covers had to be raised and the asphalt levels improved in order to create the ideal base for the resin bound paving to be laid over.

Old perimeters and delaminating macadam were removed and the front edge was realigned to improve the aesthetics.

Greenstone sought the aggregate independently to the requirements of the customer and mixed it together with SureSet’s ProResin UVR for a high-quality resin bound surfacing.  ProResin has excellent binding and coating properties and when correctly used with compatible aggregates, it creates durable and attractive resin bound paving.

The resin bound paving was then installed in one day over the existing driveway.  Having the material laid in a short space of time meant there were no joints in the paving and a seamless surface could be done.

By raising the existing drain covers, Greenstone could then use the same resin bound material as the rest of the driveway to infill the cover trays so that they blend in as much as possible whilst leaving them accessible where necessary.

“The final result was so much more than I expected”.

Why use resin bound paving on your driveway?

  • One of the advantages of resin bound surfaces is their permeability. Water can drain through the surface, which helps to prevent puddles and reduce surface water runoff. This can be beneficial in meeting local planning regulations and minimising the risk of flooding.
  • Resin bound paving is relatively low maintenance. It is resistant to weeds, and because the surface is smooth, it's easy to sweep or hose off debris. Regular cleaning can keep the driveway looking new for an extended period.
  • When properly installed, resin bound driveways are durable and resistant to cracking. The combination of aggregates and resin creates a solid surface that can withstand regular vehicle traffic.
  • Quality resin bound systems are UV-stable, meaning they can resist damage from exposure to sunlight. This helps maintain the colour and appearance of the driveway over time.
  • Resin bound driveways offer a visually pleasing and customisable surface. The combination of various aggregates and resin colours allows homeowners to create a unique and attractive driveway.
  • Driveways can be customised to suit various design preferences. Homeowners can choose from a wide range of aggregate colours, sizes, and textures to achieve the desired look.

It's important to note that a proper installation is crucial to the performance and longevity of a resin bound driveway. Hiring experienced professionals ensures that the surface is prepared correctly, the resin is applied evenly, and the final result meets quality standards. Additionally, periodic maintenance, is recommended to enhance durability and appearance.
