Using PourOn over dry aggregate in situ is a popular technique for areas where stones are loose and can scatter over surrounding areas. The process involves encapsulating the stone in a clear UV-stable resin to create a natural but solid gravel area.
This quick-fix solution is a low maintenance and durable finish whilst maintaining the permeability within the stone layers. Supplied in a simple-to-use kit, PourOn is an easy solution for homeowners to use around their homes and gardens. Use on new or existing footpaths or decorative areas.
Pouring resin over loose gravel can have several benefits, here are some potential advantages:
- Stabilisation – Resin can stabilise loose gravel preventing it from shifting or spreading. This is especially useful for areas around the garden where a more solid or even surface is required.
- Durability – PourOn resin adds strength and durability to the loose stone and can withstand foot traffic and adverse weather conditions.
- Aesthetics – whilst still giving the appearance of natural, loose aggregate, the resin holds it in place to keep it looking attractive and prevent spreading into surrounding areas.
- Low maintenance – clean the surface using a hose and brush if needed for any sitting debris. No need to keep sweeping loose stone back to its place.
- Easy to use – no need for mixing products, simply pour the resin over the desired area for a quick installation. Supplied in a manageable 1kg, 5kg or 20kg kegs.
As a guide PourOn should be applied as 1kg/m² per coat.
- For decorative areas, apply 1 coat
- For residential footpaths, apply 2 coats
- For heavier commercial/public pedestrian use, apply 3 coats
Applicator wand will be included with every 5kg and 20kg purchase.
PourOn can be used in temperatures above 5⁰C. Do not use in wet or damp conditions, or if rain is forecast within 24 hours. Best results are when used with larger sized stone such as 10mm, 14mm, and 20mm. It is advised to apply 2-3 light coats rather than one heavy application to avoid bubbling or foaming of the resin.
Rounded or crushed gravel is available to purchase directly from SureSet to use with PourOn.
EnquireHow Do I Use PourOn?
Full instructions provided, here’s an overview of the process:
- Prepare: area and ensure the loose gravel is dry, level, and free of any debris.
- Protect: the edges and surrounding areas.
- Attach: the PourOn applicator to your watering can.
- Wear: protective gloves/clothing.
- Pour: the gravel binder solution into the watering can.
- Move: steadily allowing the resin to ‘shower’ over the gravel.
- Trowel: After the first pour, before it has cured, the surface can be smoothed off with a trowel to achieve a smooth finish.
- Cure, leave to dry overnight and secure the area to avoid accidental footprints etc. A second coat should be applied the following day.
- Cast: Some gravels can be become slippery after resin is applied. To avoid this, on the final coat a fine, dry sand can be cast over the resin before it dries to create a more slip resistant finish. (this is available from SureSet)
- Finish: Protect the gravel from moisture, animals, and people for at least 24 hours. Before allowing access, check the gravel for tacky spots. If you find any dry spots you can apply more PourOn in localised areas following the above steps.
